Cookies
We use the cookies the site needs to work, our own anonymous visitor count, and Google Analytics to see which pages are used. There are no advertising cookies.
What's stored on your device
- __Host-amup_voter
- This site
- Keeps you signed in after you verify, so you can vote. It holds a random token only, never your enrolment number, email or votes; the server keeps only a hash of it.
- Lasts: Up to 30 days, and never past 6 November 2026 at 8:00 am. Removed when you sign out.
- __Host-amup_vid
- This site
- An anonymous visitor ID: a random value used only to count visitors. It isn't linked to your sign-in.
- Lasts: 6 months
- __Host-amup_admin
- This site
- The organiser's sign-in to the admin area. Students never get this cookie.
- Lasts: 12 hours
- _ga and _ga_<ID>
- Google Analytics
- Google Analytics uses these to tell visits apart and count pages viewed. They carry a random ID, not your name, enrolment number or email, and are not set on the admin area. We have switched off Google's advertising features. To stop it, clear this site's cookies or use a browser or extension that blocks Google Analytics.
- Lasts: Up to 2 years (set by Google)
- __cf_bm, cf_clearance and similar
- Cloudflare
- Cloudflare, which protects the site, may set its own security cookies, for example to tell people from bots or after a security check.
- Lasts: Set by Cloudflare under its own policy (usually short-lived)
- amup_cookie_notice
- This site (local storage, not a cookie)
- Remembers that you closed the cookie notice. It is just a yes/no flag and identifies nobody.
- Lasts: Until you clear this site's data
The names above are the ones used on the live site. The __Host- prefix means the browser only accepts the cookie over HTTPS and only for this exact site. All three of our cookies are HttpOnly, so scripts on the page can't read them.
Videos on candidate profiles request nothing from YouTube or Google until you tap one. After a tap, the player loads from youtube-nocookie.com and then fetches resources from Google and YouTube domains (such as ytimg.com, googlevideo.com, gstatic.com and google.com), which may set their own identifiers under Google's policy. This site doesn't control those. Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn videos are plain links that open the other site in a new tab when you click.
What signing out removes
- Your sign-in session on our server, and the sign-in cookie on this device. Other devices stay signed in.
- Not your votes. Votes are final and stay counted.
- Not the visitor ID, because it isn't linked to your sign-in.
How to clear them
Every browser lets you delete cookies and site data for one site, usually under Settings → Privacy (or by tapping the padlock next to the address). Clearing them signs you out on that device and resets the visitor ID; it doesn't change your votes. For what we keep on our side, see the privacy page.
